A gym log app for iPhone and Apple Watch, feature by feature

Basalt Lab is a strength training tracker for iPhone and Apple Watch. You log a set in 2 taps, it shows you what you lifted last time, and it turns your sessions into 48 stats. No social feed, no noise.

Log a set in 2 taps

Logging a set takes two taps: confirm the weight, confirm the reps. Both are pre-filled with what you did last time, so most sets need no typing at all.

Between two sets you have a barbell to reload and a rest timer running, not a form to fill. Basalt Lab starts from the assumption that today looks a lot like last time, and only asks you to say what changed.

When it does change, you adjust the number and confirm. The set is saved on the phone immediately, connection or not.

See what you lifted last time

When you open an exercise, your previous session is already on screen, set by set: weight, reps and date. You decide what to ask your body for today with the real numbers in front of you.

Getting stronger means asking for a little more than last time. The hard part was never the effort, it was remembering what last time was. Whether you used to keep a notebook, a spreadsheet or nothing at all, the app now remembers for you.

48 stats computed from your real sessions

Basalt Lab computes 48 statistics from the sets you actually logged: how your loads move over time, how much you lift per session, how often you train. Nothing comes from a generic model or an average of other people.

A stat is only useful if it changes a decision. The ones in the app are there to answer plain questions: is this exercise still progressing, is this week heavier than the last one, when did I last train this movement.

370+ exercises, ready to log

The catalog covers more than 370 exercises, with barbells, dumbbells, machines and bodyweight. Pick one and its whole history comes with it.

Exercises are the backbone of the history: the same movement, logged the same way, session after session, is what makes progression readable.

And if you would rather not build a session yourself, 52 ready-made workouts are ready to start, 12 of them free. You pick one, the app runs it set by set.

Log the session from your Apple Watch

The Apple Watch app lets you log each set from your wrist and run the rest timer without taking the phone out of your pocket. The iPhone stays the brain: it must stay within range during the session.

The built-in Workout app records that you trained; it does not record your sets, reps or weights. Basalt Lab on the Watch fills that gap.

Live Activities, Dynamic Island, widgets and HealthKit

The rest timer runs live on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island, Home Screen widgets show your training at a glance, and the app talks to Apple Health through HealthKit.

Basalt Lab is written in SwiftUI for iOS 17 and later, in-house at Otia LTD. It uses what iOS offers natively rather than rebuilding it in a web view.

Offline first, data hosted in the EU

Every session is saved on your iPhone first, so you can log a full workout with no connection. Optional sync goes through a backend hosted in the EU, encrypted in transit. No ads, no data sold, no social feed.

Your data lives on your phone and in a cloud backup in Europe. Apple Health stays under Apple’s control. Deleting your account erases everything, on the phone and on the server.
