Who makes Basalt Lab
One app, one independent studio, and a barbell three to four times a week. This page says who is behind Basalt Lab, why it exists, and where the numbers on this site come from.
Why this app exists
Basalt Lab is the product of two years of strength training and of frustration with the apps on the market: too social, too toy-like, or not truly native to iOS. The idea was the opposite of a feed: a tool that remembers what you lifted and gets out of the way.
The goal has not changed since the first line of code: an app that respects the user as much as the practice.
How it is built
Basalt Lab is developed and published by Otia LTD, an independent studio. The whole app is built in-house: the SwiftUI and SwiftData architecture, the Apple Watch companion, Live Activities and the Dynamic Island, WidgetKit, HealthKit, and the backend. No external team.
It works offline first: every session is saved on the iPhone before anything else. Sync is optional and hosted in the EU, encrypted in transit.
What Basalt Lab does not do
No social feed, no likes, no leaderboard. No advertising tracking, and your data is never sold. No AI chatter dressed up as coaching.
Deleting your account erases everything: account, sessions, cloud records and local data.
Where the numbers on this site come from
When this site says 2 taps, 48 stats or 370+ exercises, those are things you can count in the app. The blog is written from the same place: sessions actually trained, and code actually shipped.
